I grew up in Missouri, and one of my favorite awards programs as a youth was the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) bead program, that the Heart of America Council had. There is some debate about how much the bead program helps get young men to attend activities, but many troops have seen increased attendance at activities. If it helps one or more additional young men to attend, it is worth it.

In an effort to initiate the program here in Utah, I created a modified version of the (BSA) Heart of America Council Bead Program. You can't purchase all of the beads and things from ScoutStuff.org, but you can get all the other needed beads from
OzarkCampfire.com.

To get started each boy and leader needs two things:

A Belt Totem (which you can get at ScoutStuff.org or OzarkCampfire.com)

And Suede Leather Lacing (ScoutStuff.org or OzarkCampfire.com)

You will need two strips of suede leather lacing about XX" long.

The boys and leaders earn beads as follows:

Bead Program: (These go on a leather belt totem, with lace)

Not every "Good Turn" needs to even be something big. For example it could be something as simple as picking up someones papers they dropped, opening the door for another, or picking up trash to clean up your community.

It is the small acts of kindness and service that go a long way! Everyone could take a page out of the Boy Scout's handbook. Do a Good Turn Daily! It's not just good manners, it's a way of life.

History of the Scout Slogan:
The Scout Slogan was developed by Baden-Powell. He felt that this slogan was the main duty God asks of us.

"When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
He believed that fulfilling our duty to God by serving others not only fulfills that duty, but makes us happier in the process.

The point behind this he thought to be not the deed itself but the act of putting others before yourself.Chupp22http://www.blogger.com/profile/12273184081330997596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345599898920666387.post-57276725693017705322010-05-03T10:40:00.000-07:002011-11-22T10:37:07.155-08:00The Boy Scouts of America - Scout Motto

Be Prepared.
That's the motto of the Boy Scouts.

"Be prepared for what?" someone once asked Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, "Why, for any old thing." said Baden-Powell.

With the skill that any young man learns in Boy Scouts, they will be prepared for an every changing world. As the Scouts continues to adapt with the changing times the boy scout motto stays the same! No matter the situation a boy scout will be ready for the situation. Whether saving someone drowning in a swimming pool, or fixing a computer they have learned the skills necessary to the task.

Furthering this "Baden-Powell wasn't thinking just of being ready for emergencies. His idea was that all Scouts should prepare themselves to become productive citizens and to give happiness to other people. He wanted each Scout to be ready in mind and body for any struggles, and to meet with a strong heart whatever challenges might lie ahead."

Be prepared for life - to live happily and without regret, knowing that you have done your best. That's what the Scout motto means.Chupp22http://www.blogger.com/profile/12273184081330997596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345599898920666387.post-66729265915806543832010-04-22T10:40:00.000-07:002011-09-29T09:36:02.269-07:00The Boy Scouts of America - Scout Law

A Scout is Trustworthy.
